BC Animal Policing Survey
The most recent statistics (2023) show that of nearly 400,000 criminal offenses in British Columbia only 21 were related to animal cruelty. People with pets in BC are policed by the Province's 161 municipalities, the RCMP, the Surrey Police Services (SPS), the BC SPCA, the BC Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General and the BC Agricultural Ministry resulting in a costly financial burden to the taxpayer of many hundreds of millions. BC SPGA is campaigning for province managed animal enforcement in liaison and cooperation with BC's 161 municipalities policing. The call for reform is not just about financial efficiency; it’s about fairness for people with pets in British Columbia. The cost to the public for animal enforcement should be minimal with maximum efficiency.
